Website help, advice and internet frequently asked questions

If you find it difficult to understand the internet, websites and how it all works online then read on. A simple explanation of domain names, website hosting, internet viewing and more...

Domain names
A domain name is just another name for your website address. Each domain name has to be totally unique so that when someone types a website address into their address bar they can only end up receiving the information for that specific website address. You have to purchase a domain name in order for people to go to your website's unique address. Domain names are paid for on a yearly basis by anyone who wants to have a presence on the internet. We can purchase any available name for our customers on request (with payment in advance), however you will have to supply your name, address and contact details as you own the name and all rights to the name NOT US! We are an ethical company and work with our clients, not against them, which gives you piece of mind.

Hosting for your website
Once you have bought a domain name then you will need a place for our website design to sit on the internet so others can see the website design when they visit your domain name. We offer two discounted website hosting packages: Our Standard Hosting Service and our Premium Hosting Service. We also offer add ons to our hosting services if needed. Website hosting comes in many different forms but most of our clients will be able to run everything required for their needs with a Standard hosting package. If you are planning on having a database structured and interactive website then please ask our advice on hosting before you purchase as you would probably require our Premium Package hosting. Our hosting is bought on a yearly or two yearly basis and paid in advance. We will send you a reminder notice 30 days prior to your renewal date of your website hosting service. We send future renewal notices via email on Paypals payment request system or via Google Checkout and you are responsible to make sure that any renewal notice is paid before the hosting service expires.

How do we put our designs onto the internet for you?
We use a software program which securely transfers all the design files onto your hosting space. This is done by FTP which stands for "file transfer protocol" and is the industry standard. We usually keep a record of each clients login details in order for us to be able to update your website in future, if and when needed.

I am unsure what colours to choose for my websites background and text, can you help?
Please visit our colour chart guide to view and choose the colours which best suit your taste. Please make a note of the name and the code of your colours. View our website colour chart here >>

Can my website be updated from time to time and does it cost anything extra?
We are continuously updating our clients websites as business needs can change from time to time. We charge as little as £40 per extra static page added, however for more complicated work then please call us for a quotation.

I want to update my website myself, is it easy to do?
If you are familiar with and can operate Macromedia Dreamweaver MX Professional (or newer versions) and Macromedia Flash MX Professional (or newer versions) then updating your website yourself would be possible. These two software programs are professional website design systems which are widely used in our industry. In addition to using this required software to alter files, you would also need to use an ftp software program to upload the files to the internet (to your website hosting). We recommend that if you want your website updated frequently then call us as we can quote you for the work. Our pricing is very competitive and you may find it cheaper and less time consuming for you to leave the updating to us.

I'm not seeing the latest version of my website, is something wrong?
Most internet users surf the web with Microsofts Internet Explorer version 4, 5, 6 and 7, which is part of and built into Microsofts operating systems. If you are not seeing the latest version of your design when it has been updated live on the internet then you will need to check that your Internet Explorer is set to "check for new versions of stored pages - AUTOMATICALLY". This can be done by right clicking your internet explorer desktop icon, then under "temporary internet files" select SETTINGS. You should select the tick box for AUTOMATICALLY then click OK, then OK once more. Another way of forcing the latest version of any internet page is to press down on your keyboard "Ctrl" and "F5" simultaneously (at the same time)whilst viewing the page on your internet browser. This should force the latest version of any internet page to appear.

My website is slow moving from page to page, is something wrong?
If you are viewing your website, or any other website and you feel that the pages are coming up slowly then consider the following: 1. Your internet connection is running very slow. 2. Your internet browser has a virus, causing the pages to come up very slowly. 3. Your website hosting provider is having technical difficulties.

My website takes up more than the whole page when I view it in my internet browser, is their something wrong?
No, there is nothing wrong, it all depends on what display settings you have set. We design websites based on three display settings: 1600 x 1200 pixels, 1280 x 1024 pixels and also 1024 x 768 pixels (still used by approximately 30 to 50 percent of current internet users).

How can I make my website more popular with visitors?
This is KEY to the success or failure of your websites popularity on the internet. If you seriously want to make your website successful and attract new business then you will need to consider using various marketing techniques to increase your website visitors.

How long will it take for you to build me a website which is live on the internet?
Obviously there is no clear cut answer to this question as there are too many variables involved. Such as how and when you provide us with the content that we need to construct your website, how much content there is, the size of your website etc... But in general as a guide you should be looking at around 1 to 2 weeks from receipt of your general text and pictures.

Who owns the rights to the design work?
You own the rights to the design work and you are free to reproduce it in anyway however you do not own the rights to any images which we have supplied with the design work (apart from your logo, if we have made one for you). If you require source files for flash work then please contact us directly.

Do I have to keep your small logo link displayed on my website?
You can have the small link to our website removed if you feel this is absolutely necessary. We will charge £50 to remove the links.

What about value for money website design and online marketing services? How do we compare for price?
Telteam offer low cost services to our many clients. Our main client profiles are small to medium sized businesses, self employed and private individuals. Our company maintains annual turnover levels which are less than the required government figures requiring compulsory registration for VAT, hence we do not need to charge VAT on our services and we have not voluntarily registered for VAT. Also, we realise that the majority of our clients are also non VAT registered and in turn cannot claim back VAT on their purchases, including our services. For these reasons and because we do not charge VAT on our services, we become much more competitive with regard to pricing than a similar company who maybe registered for VAT.
